VUCP attended Global People’s Assembly 2023

VUCP took part online in the Global People's Assembly, which was described as an invaluable and highly significant experience. The organization was invited to join the event as a partner of GCAP (Global Call to Action Against Poverty).

The assembly spanned two days, with sessions on September 17th and 18th. On the second day, Abdul Awal, the coordinator of GCAP Bangladesh, addressed the audience as a panel speaker during the 3rd SDG forum Asia.

During the Finalize Declaration session, group work was conducted, and VUCP actively participated in this group work process with the online participant group. It was a great moment for us when the GCAP presenter expressed gratitude to the VUCP representative for their active involvement.

The points raised by VUCP and presented during the large session are as follows: Next Summit: In the next summit, discussions should focus on post-2030 issues. We need to consider whether we should adopt more goals or address historical systemic poverty-driven issues.

Future Finance: Future financial efforts should also prioritize SDG 1 (Poverty) and SDG 2 (Hunger). There should be investment in Basic Education, which is mandated by UDHR 26 and SDG 4. We should declare Basic Education for all, rather than limiting it to elementary or primary education and Peace should be another field of focus for future financing.

Mobilization: The silent portion of the population should be mobilized to raise their own voices.

VUCP used this assembly as an opportunity to share its goals with the larger international community. They engaged with the chat box, providing information about VUCP and its objectives, which resulted in positive feedback and a willingness to collaborate from the participants. our participation in the Global People’s Assembly was a productive and rewarding experience
