There is no declaration of UN Convention on the poor.

Q. Why is a declaration on the poor needed?

“Global poverty is one of the most pressing problems that the world faces today”. Present Human Rights declarations were not able to address the rights of poor people properly. As the largest number of special vulnerable groups, Poor people need protection against inequalities and oppression under a global legal framework. So that this ratified UN convention by the governments of the member states and also for the international community will be legal protection for the implementation of the rights of the poor and will end global poverty.

Q. Does this concept is being accepted by the global community?

This is the very latest concept for addressing poverty. Because of its necessity, soon it will draw the attention of the global community.

Q. What is the difference between SDG goal 1 and the UN Convention on the poor?

SDG is a global goal targeted by the UN and accepted by the governments of the member states which is not completely obligatory but rather a commitment. SDG Goal 1 does not target to end all forms of poverty but is a partial target of the whole. On the other hand, UN Convention on the poor will be a legally obligatory document for the member states and as well as the international community to follow.

Q. When the UN Convention on the poor will declare?

This is a huge goal to materialize. It is at its starting point only. It needs strong attention from the international community as well as the involvement of people with a strong voice around the world. The sooner it will submit to the UN by its member state, it will achieve. This is an optimistic long run.

Q. What are the challenges you are facing?

VUCP is in the very initial stage of its working journey, therefore our present challenge is to draw the attention of the respective individuals and organizations to this concept and carry it forward.

Q. What is VUCP's working strategy?

VUCP will work as a citizen’s organization to raise voices on behalf of poor people around the world. VUCP will involve people to claim the UN convention, conduct consultations on the claimed convention, and create a global campaign on this issue, conduct necessary research to find the best ways of rights-based legal obligations ending poverty.
